A tip of the cap to Larry Morrison, part-owner of North America Cup champion Up The Credit (above), who looks like a genius after penciling his colt’s name in as a write-in three-year-old selection for the Dream Stable contest.
With Morrison’s write-in bringing in $880,750, Up The Credit is certainly the early clubhouse leader for ‘write-in of the year’ — especially since Morrison was the only Dream Stable manager to select him.
However, many others also took a detour from the beaten path and have seen some handsome returns thus far. For example, three participants wrote-in three-year-old trotter Dejarmbro’s name and have been rewarded with $352,118 in the bank so far after the colt’s recent win in the $500,000 Beal Memorial at Pocono Downs.
In addition, Some Girls Do ($216,599), Big Bad John ($197,568), Beatgoeson Hanover ($178,945), Machal Jackson ($158,470) and Daylon Magician ($111,500) have also proven to be sage picks at this early stage of the game.
Here’s a breakdown of this year’s write-in selections, because, who knows, Morrison might not be the only one in this contest with a wild card up his sleeve.
