Shawn Steacy, who sat atop the standings just one week ago, tumbled all the way down to 134th place as the Sportswriter backers stampeded past the trainer from Lansdowne, ON, who had his eggs in the Rock N Roll Heaven basket.
For the 261 Dream Stable managers who selected three-year-old pacing colt Sportswriter, North America Cup night on June 26 was a very good night. With the winner’s share of the $1.5 million purse now in their coffers, these savvy managers have catapulted themselves to the top of the Dream Stable heap and, for now, left all of the Sportswriter-less entries in their dust.
Howard Collins of North Sydney, NS takes over the lead in the pool thanks not only to the newly-crowned Cup champion, but also Fan Hanover and Elegantimage winners Western Silk and Ultimate Cameron. Collins is followed by second-place Tim Duncan of Harriston, ON, who also has Sportswriter and Western Silk, but settled for Poof Shes Gone’s third-place money in the Elegantimage.
